It’s been 6 months since the new RBR (Resale Building Report) guidelines and recommendations came out from the City of San Rafael and time for a check in before the City Council.  This is happening on Wednesday, July 19th.   Incidentally, the Council has adopted an Accept Position on the new resale inspection process.  Here’s the link to the Staff report to read further.  http://cityofsanrafael.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=38&event_id=801&meta_id=109141 MAR reports no complaints since the new guidelines came out and it seems as though the new process is working well. If you think otherwise, please attend the City Council meeting and express your views.

NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY - Are you looking to increase your referrals from other agents?  Come enjoy a beautiful evening in Sonoma on Thursday, August 24th and network with REALTORS from our Region at the annual CAR President’s Dinner.   This event is really fun, with music, a delicious dinner and a chance to meet our colleagues from outside Marin County including CAR President Geoff McIntosh.  We’ll honor his service and leadership to the State Association while getting to know him as a person in a pretty small group of people.  Sign up at the link here.

SCAM Alerts: Inman reported that Florida agents were receiving invoices in the amount of $225 from an organization posing as their REALTOR Board. The website looked the same as their Board website, the invoices were almost identical and they targeted all of its association members.  See the Inman news article for more information  https://www.inman.com/2017/07/13/alleged-florida-board-scam-targeting-real-estate-agents-is-back-whos-behind-it/?utm_source=inbrief&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=inbrief&utm_content=20170713%2B%2BREADMORE%2B1 If you haven’t signed up for your free account with Inman offered to you by MAR, you can still do so by signing up for MAR.

Locally, there have been scams reported in the last week as well.  There was a potential Buyer and his family all in their mid-20s who called and set up a showing at a high end home. He claimed to be a beneficiary of an estate.  Some of the facts he provided weren’t able to be verified and he got upset when asked for proof of funds.

Another member this week reported contact from a representative of a company who “secures” listings in advance. For a fee of $6500, they will guarantee a number of sales in the first year.  It felt fishy and raised a number of red flags.  After she did some research, she couldn’t verify it as a legitimate business.

Agents, be careful.  We are often targeted.  If the worst that could happen was that we lose money, that’s one thing but certainly there are people out there who have more harmful intentions.  A quick google search on scams targeting REALTORS turned up quite a bit. Don’t be afraid to ask for proof of funds, identification, and tell someone when you go out and meet a Buyer for the first time.
